In 2016, ACTION-Housing asked BPA to provide ENERGY STAR Multifamily High Rise verification for Krause Commons, a new landmark building on the boundary of Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. Krause Commons is a six-story, 33-unit apartment building. BPA worked closely with the architect, the mechanical engineer, and the contractor, to confirm that both the design and the constructed building meet ENERGY STAR’s rigorous energy efficiency requirements. BPA conducted extensive inspections and tests to complete this verification. Due to the sunset of the Multifamily High Rise program in favor of the “Multifamily New Construction” program, Krause Commons is the only ENERGY STAR Multifamily High Rise certified building in western Pennsylvania.
